Tis The Season

Can you believe it's already December?! Oh my goodness this year has gone by oh so quickly. But I am definitely excited for Christmas to be here! Christmas is my most favoritest holiday ever. And it has definitely hit the Higham house.

Don't you just love those stockings? Those were my great find last year!

Like I said, Christmas has officially arrived. I am even completely done with my Christmas shopping AND it's all wrapped and ready to be delivered!

My mom and I got into the holiday spirit by making two crafts!

The first thing we made was this sign.

Cute, huh? It was really easy. We just got the boards cut at Home Depot and then used stencils to paint it on. We got the stencils at Michael's but I think JoAnne's or even Walmart would have something similar. 

We also made wreaths. I don't have any pictures of hers but I made a Santa Clause wreath. 

I can't remember where I got this idea from but if anyone knows of the link let me know.

Craft Sunday

Guess what today was?! That's right. Craft Sunday! I spent all evening crafting with my mom. Wahoo! We are getting a jump start on the holidays with a Christmas Tree!

We had so much fun! The pictures aren't really in order but it is pretty basic. We had a 2x4 cut at home depot. We had blocks cut to 2 inches, 3 inches, 4 inches, 6 inches, and 7 inches. Paint the 2 inch block brown, as that is the base of the tree, then paint the others green. We did a light and a darker shade of green, but you could do it all the same. Then we took lace and used modge podge to stick it to the bottom and middle blocks. Patterned paper or anything of the sort would also be fantastic! Then we simply glued them all together!

Baby Shower!

A good friend of mine is having a baby! Man I'm so excited for her! She's having a little baby girl, and her baby shower is coming up quick! I wanted to make her something cute, so I decided to make her these!

She's due in November so I wanted t make something to keep her feet warm! I need a bit more practice but I think they turned out really cute! I found the pattern here.

Get Down With Your Crafty Self

Sunday was craft day with my mom!! Wahoo! We had so much fun! We made a burlap pumpkin, two burlap table runners, and pumpkins for the front porch! 

And just look at that rainbow! 

Handy Man

Andrew decided the day we moved in to our house that the aweful tract lighting we had was not going to stay. His project of the week... installing pot lights!

I forgot to get a picture with the tract light still up but this is it without the light, before the new ones were added.

The mess that ensued.

He did such a good job and they work wonderfully!

This is the fun my dogs had while we worked on the lights... it used to be a stuffed squirrel. But don't worry, that little stuffed bear came next.

Maxi Skirt Creation

My latest creation!  A new maxi skirt!

It was super easy to make, but the instructions for the waistband were pretty confusing. The instructions can be found here. When it says to fold the waistband over, fold it in half inside of itself.... if that makes sense. And then when you sew it on to the body of the skirt, it should be slipped all the way into the skirt, with the raw edges matching. Happy sewing!!

Guest Bedroom!

So a few months back I decided to take Nicole to one of the best places in town for a date, HOME DEPOT. Okay I know you are thinking, why would you go there. Well its because Lowes in St George. The next best place just happened to be home depo for what we needed, Paint. Seeing that we are now proud homeowners, we can do whatever we want with our house. So we found the perfect paint. It was in the mis-matched section, but it had not been mixed yet.













We decided to go with a brown color. It would help lesson the pink walls that came

with the house. Little did we know that Five gallons of paint will go a long way!! After painting one wall in the living room we were done painting for a while. We had get back to our school work.











I know you are thinking the title of the post is Guest Bedroom and I am this far in to the blog and yet to hear a word about it. Well here it is. With school being out and only a few summer classes that we have to worry about we chose to tackle the guest bedroom. I thought that we would just throw some paint on the walls and call it good. I was wrong! 


My lovely wife has much better taste then that. We ended up painting the walls, okay maybe I was more into painting and Nicole was more into the sleeping. (something like it was midnight, and Nicole had worked the night before with little sleep. I guess I can give her her a break).














We also had to hid some storage, so while I was at work Nicole went to the store and got some fabric and made some good looking covers I think. What a wonderful woman! She has good taste but at the same time I trust her more with money then I trust my self sometimes, so I know she will be a saver. I have even got her to at least wake into the DI with me!!

Any way back to the room though it is not finished, I think it is but I am told that we still need nightstands and lamps, we now have a bed with a cute bedspread on it. So now when we have people come visit we are not putting them on the floor. (sorry about that Jennifer and Thomas :/ )








It is nice best of all to get to spent the little amount of time that we have, working together to make our house more of a home!

Painting

This weekend we decided we wanted to paint our house (I know, what were we thinking)?

Anyways, so we marched on over to Home Depot to see what they had. We ended up finding a 5 gallon bucket (yes you read that right!) of paint that was on sale! Now, I'm not exactly sure what we'll do with a full five gallons unless we decide to paint our whole house, but it was cheaper than the 1 gallon buckets they had!! Anyways, the best part about it, besides getting it on sale, was that it wasn't a miss matched color we just had to be okay with, we got to pick what ever color we wanted to make it!!! Yahoo!! So we decided to go with a brown color and got right to work!

The finished product! Definitely not painting another wall for at least a few days :)

Turban

Lately I have been in this crazy I-want-a-baby kind of mood. And then I remember that I still have three years of school. My plan to combat this crisis is to find all the cute baby stuff I can make and go to town. The way I see it, siblings will be having babies, and if not I can simply stock up for that time when I am the one having the baby! With that being said....

Behold my latest creation. 

Unfortunately it is slightly difficult to see, but this would be a baby hat. Or I think it was called a baby turban..... either way it is adorable! However, I can't take credit for this creation. I found the crochet pattern at this link. The pattern is really super easy... even I could do it! All you need is 1 skein of yarn in the color of your choice and a crochet  hook. I used a 6 mm size J.
